This policy explains how The Marketing Department Ltd (trading as PearlWise on pearlblogger.com) collects, uses and protects your personal data, in line with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the Data Protection Act 2018, and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR).

2. What we collect

When you request our free household budget report, we collect:

  • First name and last name (required)
  • Email address (required)
  • Your main area of interest, if selected (optional)
  • Whether you opted in to occasional advertising updates
  • Date and time of submission, and IP address (for security and fraud prevention)

We do not ask for, and you should never need to provide, any bank details or payment card information on this site.

3. Why we process your data, and our legal basis

  • Sending you the requested PDF report — legal basis: consent (UK GDPR Art. 6(1)(a); PECR reg. 22)
  • Occasional advertising updates, only if you separately opted in — legal basis: consent (PECR reg. 22)
  • Answering enquiries sent via our contact details — legal basis: legitimate interests
  • Security and fraud prevention (e.g. logging IP address on form submission) — legal basis: legitimate interests

We do not use automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects on you.

4. Who we share data with

Your data may be shared with:

  • Our email delivery provider, used solely to send the report and any updates you opted into
  • Our hosting provider, which processes data on our behalf as part of running this website
  • Advertising partners, but only in aggregated or pseudonymised form for measuring campaign performance — never your name or email address for resale purposes

We never sell your personal data to third parties.

5. How long we keep your data

  • Report request and marketing-preference data: up to 24 months from your last interaction, or until you withdraw consent, whichever is sooner
  • Server access logs: up to 12 months
  • Cookie consent preference (localStorage): up to 12 months

6. Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies and localStorage for essential site function and, only with your consent, for analytics and advertising measurement. Full detail is in our Cookie Policy.

7. Your rights under UK GDPR

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Have inaccurate data corrected
  • Request erasure of your data ("right to be forgotten")
  • Object to processing based on legitimate interests
  • Request data portability
  • Withdraw consent at any time, with no effect on processing carried out before withdrawal

8. Email marketing (PECR)

We only send marketing emails to individuals who have given clear, affirmative consent — for example, by ticking the separate "occasional advertising updates" box on our report request form. We never use pre-ticked boxes. Every marketing email includes a one-click unsubscribe link, and you can withdraw consent at any time without affecting the report you've already received.

9. International transfers

Our website is hosted with Hostinger International Ltd. (a Cyprus-registered company, part of the EU). Where any of our service providers process data outside the UK or EEA, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, such as the UK's International Data Transfer Agreement (IDTA) or the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, as required by UK GDPR Chapter V.
