Privacy Policy
This policy explains how 5 Ronin Media Ltd ("we", "us"), the publisher of pearlblogger.com ("Fieldnotes"), collects and uses personal data, in line with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
1. Who we are
The data controller for this site is 5 Ronin Media Ltd, company number 13990665, registered office at Flat 81, West Cliff Studios, 5 Durley Gardens, Bournemouth, Dorset, England, BH2 5HT. Contact details are on our Contact page.
2. What data we collect
- Usage data: standard technical data such as browser type, device type, pages visited and referral source, collected via cookies and similar technologies once you consent (see our Cookie Policy).
- Affiliate click data: when you click through to a recommended course, we log the timestamp, the page you clicked from and a truncated IP address (the last segment removed) for fraud prevention and to reconcile referrals with the affiliate programme. We do not store full IP addresses in this log.
- Correspondence: if you email us, we hold that correspondence and any details you choose to share, for as long as needed to handle your enquiry.
We do not currently operate any sign-up form or newsletter on this site, so we do not collect names, postal addresses or payment details directly.
3. How we use this data
- To operate and improve the site;
- To measure how content performs, once you've consented to analytics cookies;
- To attribute affiliate referrals correctly to this site;
- To respond to enquiries sent to us directly.
4. Legal basis
We rely on your consent for non-essential cookies (analytics/advertising), and on our legitimate interest in running and improving the site for essential functionality and affiliate attribution.
5. Third parties
If you follow a link to a course provider (such as Coursera), that provider's own privacy policy applies to any data you share with them directly — we have no visibility of the details you enter on their site. We may use third-party analytics and advertising measurement tools once you consent to those cookie categories; see the Cookie Policy for the current list.
6. Data retention
Affiliate click logs are kept only as long as needed for referral reconciliation and fraud prevention, and are periodically deleted. Email correspondence is kept for as long as reasonably necessary to resolve the matter it relates to.
7. Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal data we hold about you, and to object to certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@pearlblogger.com.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk if you believe your data has been mishandled.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date above reflects the most recent revision.
